As a team, we are all so lucky to be working in such a beautiful location. We love living and working by the sea and we are passionate about looking after our beach. We are immensely proud of the beautiful beach here and want to encourage everyone to visit Perranporth, make lasting memories and leave only footprints behind…
Plastic waste in our oceans is a constant problem and one that we are committed to trying to help solve, by reducing rubbish so we can #protectperranporth
One of the biggest issues across Cornwall is bodyboard waste. It has been estimated over 14,000 bodyboards are left on beaches across Devon and Cornwall each year*
So this year we are working with Piran Surf, to offer our guests pre-bookable hire of surf equipment, from wetsuit boots to boards and everything that’s need for more fun in the waves.
Hiring from Piran Surf means you can head for the ocean in the best quality kit, meaning you’ll enjoy a better time in the water, catching more waves for longer!
Trying a wooden belly board is a must when visiting in Perranporth. These retro wooden boards are not only handmade here in Cornwall, but also give you the ultimate feel-good ride! Not to mention they look very cool too.
As well as wooden boards, Piran Surf are launching inflatable bodyboards! Space saving, lightweight, easy to carry and again, great for catching fun waves and reducing plastic waste. See more on their website and socials soon. We’ve had a sneak peek and they are awesome!
Hiring, or investing in a good quality board is a great way to help reduce the spread of plastic waste as they will last longer and be more durable in the water.
Matt from Hot Surf 69 and Piran Surf says “the surf riders are faster more responsive and easier to ride, Our aim is to make wood boarding more affordable. Focusing on wood boards , strong bodyboards and inflatable bodyboards is the future for the planet and your enjoyment in the surf”
We are always looking at new ways to be more sustainable and do more for our environment and are looking forward to the next steps in our environmental efforts….
Our marketing manager, Gemma has recently joined the PACE (Perranporth Against Climate Emergency) bodyboard working group to see how we can help reduce bodyboard waste. Local businesses in the group include Piran Surf, All You Can Eco, Green & Blue, Tollgate Farm and Vicky Gould Art.
The team are launching the first bodyboard recycling bin in Perranporth, where broken and unwanted boards can be left for safe collection, they are then taken to be stripped and parts recycled.
