New look Perranporth for 2019

With many new homes in the village and increasing numbers of people holidaying in Perranporth, the high street is attracting ever more discerning shoppers and is moving with the times.

Apartments

The highly anticipated new beachside development The Dunes was completed this summer. Standing on the site of the old Ponsmere Hotel, which had occupied the position since the 1920s, The Dunes is a striking new collection of luxury apartments and houses within seconds of the golden sand, many enjoying sweeping coastal views from their balconies and wall-to-wall windows. Stylishly designed and furnished for the utmost comfort, the properties are fitted with all mod cons (and indulgent extras), and all the apartments benefit from at least one allocated parking space.

New Café and Restaurant

Just around the corner from The Dunes, overlooking the three-mile beach, the new bar and café Alcatraz and fine dining restaurant The Summer House stand proud upon the rocks with views across the beach to Chapel Rock and out to the shimmering sea. With a stylish interior, and perfectly positioned balcony from which to watch the sunset, Alcatraz serves a range of soft drinks, smoothies, alcoholic drinks and cocktails, and a tempting selection of light bites.

For a delicious three course dinner or lunchtime tapas with a view, The Summer House is open from 11 a.m. daily and offers a seasonally changing menu and extensive wine list. Built into the cliffs above Alcatraz the restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a nod to the decadence of the art deco period. Huge folding doors open to the large balcony for al fresco dining and to make the most of the outstanding views.

Perranporth High Street

It’s not just the seafront where changes can be seen… Perranporth high street now boasts a number of new additions, including elegant lifestyle shop and gallery Far and Wild. Displaying a curated mix of art, craft, homeware and clothing in a gallery space, Far and Wild promotes unique products from local makers alongside international brands, with a focus on craftmanship and sustainability. Beautifully dressed for Christmas, the shopfront has recently been decorated with swathes of foliage and twinkling lights to draw the customers in.

Another new shop to have opened in the last few months is Healey’s cyder shop on the high street. Offering tasters of award winning cyders, the shop is proving popular! Part of the parade of shops that used to originally be Austin Healey’s garage and workshop, the Healey family are now making the most of the prime high street location to promote their ever burgeoning cyder business.

Meanwhile, Perranporth’s popular pre-loved boutique Seathrift is expanding and will be moving into new premises at the beginning of December. Now based on the little cut-through on the way to the beach (the lane between Camel estate agents and Perran Bay nursing home), Seathrift is bound to attract ever more customers to browse their wide range of pre-loved clothing, with a high footfall passing their door.
