Awesome Afternoon Tea in Cornwall

Cornwall is synonymous with cream teas. Once people have ticked off fish and chips, and a Cornish pasty, next on the list is invariably a traditional Cornish cream tea. Luckily, in Cornwall, you’re never more than a few miles from the nearest café or tea room ready to serve a splendid afternoon tea of scones, clotted cream, jam and cakes. Here we look at some of the best places to enjoy an afternoon tea in and around Perranporth on the north Cornish coast.

Alcatraz

Cream tea venues in Cornwall don’t get much better than this. This brand new café is situated right on the beach at Perranporth where scones come served with oodles of cream and there is a fine selection of artisan cakes. Alcatraz Bar & Cafe is the place to be for a teatime treat with an epic view of the beach and surfing action.

The Watering Hole

Just yards away along the golden sand, this seafront pub also does a roaring trade in afternoon tea for those who like to scoff their scones without leaving the beach. Popular with beachgoers, surfers and coast path hikers, The Watering Hole does a lovely cream tea with a choice of brews and cakes.

Rose in Vale Country House Hotel

For something extra special, splash out on an afternoon tea at this lovely country hotel in the peaceful village of Mithian. This picturesque Georgian retreat is set in tranquil grounds and gardens, which seem a world away from the bustle of the beach. At the Rose in Vale everything is freshly prepared by the hotel’s chefs. Enjoy finger sandwiches, homemade cakes and scones, local jam and Rodda’s clotted cream, all washed down with a pot of tea or filter coffee.

The Sorting Office

This trendy coffeehouse in the heart of St Agnes has quickly become a locals’ favourite. As well as freshly brewed coffees and a range of teas, The Sorting Office serves an amazing array of scrumptious cakes, making it a delightful spot to while away a lazy hour or so.

The Headland Hotel

When it comes to traditional afternoon tea, few venues could rival Newquay’s Headland Hotel. This grand hotel perched above Fistral Beach is the ideal location for a top notch afternoon tea that must be on a par with The Ritz or Claridges in London. Served on a traditional three tier silver tray, this afternoon treat includes freshly made sandwiches, homemade scones and naughty (but nice) cakes. And all this with an uninterrupted view of the sea!

Feeling hungry? We are too. Make sure you indulge your taste buds in one of these tearooms next time you’re on holiday in this lovely area of Cornwall or pop in to see us for more local recommendations.
