Make Perranporth your Holiday Base

Perranporth is perfectly placed for exploring all that Cornwall has to offer. Midway down the North Cornwall coast, this beautiful seaside village is easily accessible from the A30, and it’s position in the county makes it quick and easy to enjoy day trips out. Base yourself in Perranporth and you not only have the beach and South West Coast Path on your doorstep but also the opportunity to visit some of Cornwall’s best known places and landmarks.

St Ives

Only half an hour’s drive south from Perranporth is the ever popular St Ives. Discover stunning beaches surrounding the town with white sand and clear water, a lovely harbour and cobbled streets. St Ives is famed for inspiring artists with its incredible light and colours; for art enthusiasts there are galleries galore, the impressive Tate St Ives, and The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Add to these a plethora of shops and eateries and you can happily spend a day here.

Padstow

A little over half an hour drive north (taking in some of the spectacular ‘Atlantic Highway’), is the picturesque fishing port of Padstow. With glorious sandy beaches and a bustling town centre, Padstow is also the start (or finish!) of the Camel Cycle Trail. Hire bikes to pedal alongside the Camel River and work up an appetite to eat in one of the renowned restaurants. A famously foodie destination, visitors will be spoilt for choice from dinner in Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant to a freshly baked pasty on the harbour wall.

Newquay

Just a short fifteen minute drive, Newquay is home to a working harbour and eleven sandy beaches. From Crantock beach at the Gannel Estuary to Porth beach and the coast path to Watergate Bay. At low tide (always check before you go) you can walk from the harbour along Towan beach, under the iconic House on the Island through to Great Western and Tolcarne. Newquay is packed full of independent coffee shops and cafes, perfect for a coffee or bite to eat, whilst you explore the rugged coast path, sandy shorelines and classic seaside spots.

The Eden Project

Now in its 20th year, the Eden Project remains one of Cornwall’s best loved attractions. 40 minutes’ drive (26 miles) across the county from Perranporth to the opposite coast, The Eden Project is known for its striking biomes, real rainforest (and stunning rainforest canopy walk), Mediterranean landscape, and outdoor gardens. Providing endless opportunities for learning, The Eden Project connects visitors with the living world, inspires and educates.

St Austell

Head across to the other side of the coast, just over 30 minutes from Perranporth, you’ll find the historic post of Charlestown. Most known for featuring in the BBC drama, Poldark. Charlestown is also home to the Shipwreck Treasure Museum, discover over 8000 finds salvaged from the seabed. See magnificent tall ships located in this still working Georgian port.

Land’s End

Britain’s most south-westerly point, and one of the country’s most well-known landmarks, Land’s End is just less than an hour from Perranporth (36 miles), and worth a visit for the awesome views and to have your photo taken at the famous signpost! Look out from the 200 foot high granite cliffs across the Atlantic Ocean to the Longships Lighthouse; the Isles of Scilly are 28 miles further on, and beyond them, North America! Spend time at the visitor attractions, and look out for unusual coastal birds and maybe even basking sharks and dolphins.

Perranporth

If the sun is shining and all you fancy doing is enjoying a lazy day, wander down to Perranporth’s gorgeous three mile long sandy beach from your holiday accommodation, to spend a day on the beach. Take a picnic, a book, a towel and your sunnies and you’re set for the day! Save sightseeing for another day and make the most of being right by the beach to take a breath and relax into your well deserved break.
